Thoughts on Tears of the Kingdom
Sunday, July 16th, 2023 10:51 amHi! Hello! Welcome! This post contains spoilers for Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, specifically the Dragon's Tears quest.
So, once you've collected all of the geoglyph memories, one more appears on your map to be collected. And once you've come out of that memory, you find yourself surrounded by newly grown Silent Princesses. Princess Zelda's favorite flower. Right after you are given absolute confirmation of what has truly happened to Princess Zelda.
Firstly, ouch. Secondly? It got me thinking.
In none of the memories do you see any Silent Princesses.
"But Pepper," you say, "they only grow in the wild." Well, yeah. And also they're only modeled in game when you can collect them.
But what if the Silent Princess has only existed as long as the Light Dragon has?
No, I have no evidence for this. Yes, it's absolutely wild speculation. But consider: we have flowers grown, directly related to one of the dragons. We have the trio of dragons who had already existed in Breath of the Wild: Dinraal the fire dragon, Naydra the ice dragon, and Farosh the lightning dragon. And we also have Warm, Cool, and Electric Safflina.
...This is where the theory falls apart a bit, because Warm Safflina provides heat resistance, not fire resistance. But then again, the Silent Princess gives a stealth bonus, not gloom resistance/recovery or heart recovery, as you might assume from its association with the Light Dragon. (The Sundelion provides gloom recovery, and, by the way, have you looked at complementary colors recently? The white and blue Silent Princess and the yellow and black Sundelion....)
Where was I going with this? I don't remember, honestly. Just something that's been rotating slowly in the back of my mind since I finished the Dragon's Tears quest.
